Two Day Evidentiary Hearing (Day 2; Afternoon) WHAT HAPPENED THIS MORNING: Gov. Roy Barnes testified that Fani offered him the Special Prosecutor's job on October 26, 021, but he declined. Fani's father took the stand and corroborated timeline of Fani moving out of her home and claims about teaching Fani to horde cash. Then he admitted that he was prepped with Fani and watched her testimony despite the Court directing the State to direct their potential witnesses to sequester themselves. SERIOUS BLOW to the State as to his own credibility and even Fani's credibility. WHAT TO EXPECT: Fani may take the stand. Wade's lawyer Terrance Bradley may finally take the stand. BACKGROUND: Michael Roman is Donald Trump's Co-Defendant in the Georgia RICO action filed by District Attorney Fani Willis and Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade. Roman filed a motion to remove Willis, Wade and their respective offices based on allegations that they have a conflict of interest. Specifically, Roman alleged that: i) Willis and Wade have a personal romantic relationship; and ii) Willis was motivated to retain Wade and prosecute Roman to enrich herself and/or her boyfriend. If true, that was well before Fani hired Wade to be Fulton County's Special Prosecutor on November 1, 2021. Wade and Willis both testified. Wade's testimony concluded, Willis' direct testimony concluded, but not her cross from the State (which will be a very friendly cross-examination). Both Wade and willis testified that their relationship began months after the critical 11/1/21 date of Wade's retention and that Fani paid in cash her share of their relationship expenses. WHAT TO EXPECT: We will open with Fani on cross followed by re-direct. We still expect to hear from Terence Bradley and several other witnesses subpoenaed by Defense, before the State brings "3 or 4 witnesses" to provide testimony in opposition to the motion. Trump Co-Defendant (from the Geaorgia RICO case), Michael Roman, has submitted a motion to disqualify Fani Willis from her criminal case based on purported personal benefits and/or conflict of interest that Willis has with the case. The allegations are rooted in her personal relationship with Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade. Trump has joined in the motion. This afternoon, the Court is taking arguments arising from motions to quash subpoenas that Defendants have served upon various potential witnesses. If a motion to quash is successful, the Defense will not be able to provide the quashed evidence/testimony to support its motion to have Fani (and her office) dismissed from proceeding with the trial.
